Possums Art Prize

THE POSSUM ART PRIZES 2026

Conditions of Entry and Information Sheet. 

The Possum Art Prizes are organised and administered by the Arts Council of Eurobodalla Inc. (Art Central) and delivered in partnership with Southeast Arts Inc.

1. ELIGIBILITY

1.1 The Possum Art Prizes and exhibition is open to all permanent Eurobodalla residents with a current Eurobodalla shire postal address. 

Applications to the youth prize must be between 15 and 30 years of age at 31 December 2026. 

Applications to the Indigenous prize is open to Yuin and all Indigenous artists, of all ages, living in Eurobodalla.

1.2 All artworks must be original work completed no earlier than June 1, 2025. All mediums are welcome. No AI generated or modified artwork will be considered.

2. ENTRY SUBMISSION

2.1 Entries to Possum Art Prize 2026 open April 20th, 2026, and close at 4pm Thursday 14 May 2026.

2.2 Entries open to Digital Stills, Sculpture, Mixed Media, Fibre, Ceramics, Painting, Drawing, Printmaking and Photography.

2.2.1 A Digital Still is considered any artistic practice or artwork that relies on the use of computers in its main creation. Still imagery is a non-moving visual representation. Digital photography, digital imaging, digital painting, and digital illustrating, subject to the Conditions of Entry, will be accepted into the Digital Stills category. All Digital Stills must be printed and framed.  

2.3 An entry comprises a completed online or written application including up to two digital photograph/s of the artwork. 

2.4 Entry to the exhibition is free.

2.5 Digital photographs of artwork must be in JPG format and not more than 5MB.

2.6 Application forms are available both online and from Art Central and at Boomerang Centre, Mogo.

2.7 Only one entry into one category is permitted.

Assistance with written forms and photographing artworks will be provided at Mogo Boomerang Centre on Monday 11 May from 10am till 12 Midday and can also be provided at Art Central by appointment.

3. PREPARATION OF ARTWORK

3.1 Any work selected to be hung must be appropriately mounted with D rings. Please contact the Organisers if you would like advice on mounting and presentation of the D rings.

3.2 Works with hanging wire, inappropriate cord, screw eyes, other protruding metal or wire will not be accepted. Works with perishable items such as food will not be accepted.

3.3 All applications require the following information: the artist’s name, age (for youth prize), title of the work, date completed, medium and size. A statement no more than 150 words about the work can also be included. This information will be provided in the gallery during the exhibition. 

3.4 Where the artwork consists of multiples, a photograph illustrating the set-up of the multiples must be attached to the work. The entire dimensions must fit into the competition requirements of 60cm on the longest side.

3.5 The Organisers reserve the right to disqualify an artwork that does not meet the above-mentioned presentation standards.

3.6 Paint, canvas and other materials will be available to all Indigenous artist at the Boomerang Centre to assist with preparing an entry.

4. SIZE AND WEIGHT OF ARTWORK

4.1 Size limit for all artworks– 60cm on the longest side including the frame and supports.

Size limit for 3D artworks – 60cm on the longest side including all supports.

Weight limit for all artworks – 15kg.

4.2 Any artwork that exceeds 60cm on longest size or exceeds 15kgs in weight will be eliminated and not be considered for the exhibition or award.

5. EXHIBITION OF ARTWORK

5.1 The Possum Exhibition will take place at Mechanics Institute Page Street Moruya, opening Friday 5 June 2026 at 5pm, closing 2pm Saturday 13 June 2026. 

5.3 Finalists will be advised by email and/or phone of their inclusion in the exhibition on Monday 25 May.

5.4 All works selected for exhibition must remain on show for the duration of the exhibition. No early collection will be considered.

5.5 All selected artworks will be hung by the Organisers. 

6. DELIVERY OF ARTWORK

6.1 All artworks selected for exhibition must be delivered to Art Central on 30 May between 10am and noon, or 4 June 2026 between 10am and 5pm or can be left at the Mogo Boomerang Community Centre to be collected by the Organisers at 2pm on 4 June. Works left at the Mogo Boomerang Community Centre must be labelled and ready for collection. All artworks must be clearly labelled on the back with the artist’s name, phone number plus an arrow indicating the top of the artwork.

6.2 Works not delivered at the designated time will be ineligible for exhibition and disqualified from final judging.

6.3 Artists are responsible for arranging delivery of their artwork.

7. COLLECTION OF ARTWORKS

7.1 Artists are responsible for arranging collection of their artwork. Artists must collect their artworks from Mechanics Institute on Saturday 13 June between 2pm and 4pm. Works not collected will be available at Art Central the following week by arrangement.

Unsold Mogo works will be returned to the Mogo Boomerang Community Centre on Monday 15 June.

7.2 If circumstances prohibit artists from collecting their work at the set time, then artists are advised to contact the Art Central Possum Organisers.

8. SELECTION AND JUDGING

8.1 Selection for exhibition will be based on digital files submitted as part of the entry process. Final prize judging will take place once the exhibition has been installed. Entry to the competition does not guarantee selection in the exhibition.

8.2 Entrants’ artworks will be judged by two independent judges including an Indigenous judge. 

8.3 The prizes will be awarded on the advice of the judges. The judges’ decision is final.

9. PRIZE

9.1 Two cash prizes will be awarded of $1000 each. Second and Third prizes in each category will be awarded a voucher prize of 3 free art lessons each at Art Central.  No other prizes will be awarded.

9.2 Prizes will be announced at the opening of the exhibition on Friday 5 June 2026.

10. SALE OF ARTWORKS

10.1 All artworks exhibited in the Possum Art Prize exhibition can be for sale. The sale price must be included on the entry form. 

10.2 Art Central will coordinate the sale of artworks and charge a commission of 20%. If GST should be applied to the sale of your artwork, please include it in the total sale price. If an artwork is for sale then banking details for the artist must be included on the entry form.

10.3 All sold work will be available for collection by purchasers at the end of the exhibition.

11. INSURANCE

1.1 The Organisers will take all reasonable care but will not be responsible for any loss or damage to any artwork whilst in their custody. The Organisers do not insure the works whilst in transit, in storage or on exhibition. Artists may arrange their own insurance to cover potential damage, loss, or theft.

12. COPYRIGHT

12.1 Copyright for submitted works remains the property of the entrant.

12.2 Finalist entrants grant the Organisers’ non-exclusive license to use images of their work, in print and online, within Australia, for a three-year (3) period, for the purposes of promoting the Possum Art Prizes.

14. PRIVACY

14.1 All personal information collected by the Organisers will be used solely for the purposes of the delivery of the Possum Art Prizes and exhibition.
